Would you like to rescue your smile from the effects of crooked teeth? Effects that might not only be aesthetic but threatening to your oral health, too? (Studies show that straight teeth are healthier teeth, because they are easier to keep clean with basic brushing and flossing.) Then consider having orthodontics with Invisalign. Using this system, Dr. Parkey or Dr. Davis will be able to straighten your teeth so discreetly that only you and your dental team will ever know you're wearing braces.
Unlike traditional orthodontics that use bulky metal brackets and wires to straighten misaligned teeth, Invisalign uses clear BPA-free plastic aligners. These clear braces are sequentially arranged to gradually move your teeth until the desired result is achieved.
Another significant difference between Invisalign and conventional braces is that these clear aligners are removable. So, while Dr. Parkey and Dr. Davis will need you to wear your Invisalign plastic aligners for at least 22 hours each day in order to complete treatment on time, you’ll be able to take them out for brushing and flossing and when you want to eat. This means that you’ll be able to maintain your regular at-home oral hygiene, which makes cavities and discoloration less likely—a greater risk with standard orthodontics. Moreover, you can eat whatever you like, including sticky and hard foods that would normally run the risk of damaging metal brackets and wires.
Before you begin treatment with Invisalign, we’ll need to make sure that your teeth and gums are healthy. Once you have a clean bill of dental health, you’re about 12 to 18 months away from having that straight and beautiful smile. Treatment begins with a set of x-rays, impressions and photographs of your teeth and mouth. These are translated into a 3D image of your smile that we use to develop your treatment plan. The Invisalign lab uses this plan to manufacture your customized aligners, which are sent to our Jonesboro dental office.
We’ll get you started on how to properly insert and remove your aligners. After that, all you have to do is wear each set—one for your upper arch and one for the lower—for about two weeks. Then, advance to the next pair. We’ll see you occasionally for progress checks. Over the course of treatment, you’ll watch your straight smile develop until you reach the finish line when your smile rescue mission is complete.
